Our first person on the waitlist — a milestone for Help4Homeless

A Peterborough resident experiencing homelessness has become the first person formally added to our waitlist, marking a turning point for our youth-led charity.

When Help4Homeless launched just months ago, it began with a single observation — a man sleeping under a bridge in our city — and a question from a 17-year-old who refused to look away: what can I actually do?

Today, we have an answer. We are thrilled to announce that our very first person has been added to the Help4Homeless waitlist, and that we will soon be meeting with them in person to carry out a full wellbeing assessment before delivering a tailored pack directly to them.

"Every big change begins small. This is our small becoming real."

This milestone is about more than logistics — it is proof that Peterborough's community is responding. Through donations, shares, and word of mouth, we have reached a point where a real person in our city will soon hold a pack assembled entirely from the generosity of people who care.

Our wellbeing assessment process means we won't just be handing over a bag. We'll be taking the time to sit down with this individual, understand their situation, and ensure the contents of their pack are as relevant and useful as possible — from warm socks and hygiene items to snacks, hand warmers, and a notepad and pen.

For a charity founded on the belief that age is no barrier to making change, this first waitlist entry feels enormous. We started with one person on a bridge; we are now in a position to actually reach out, meet them, and do something meaningful.

We will be sharing updates from the assessment and delivery once it has taken place — always with the dignity and privacy of the individual at the centre of everything we do.

If you'd like to fund the pack that goes to our first waitlisted person — or help us build the pipeline for those who come next — you can donate via our GoFundMe. Every £10 is one complete pack, one real person, one act of care.
